The first monitor of our roundup is the Predator XB271HU by Acer.
This gaming monitor offers a 144Hz refresh rate (can be overclocked to 165 Hz) in a 1440p IPS display.
It comes with small-sized, V-shaped, fully adjustable stand with red-black color scheme. Even with its smaller size, the stand has wider base which makes the monitor stable, although not as stable as some of its competitors.
This stand provides 40 degrees of tilt, 30-degree rotation in either direction, and allows you to pivot the cabinet at 90-degree angle for portrait mode.
One downside I found in these wide feet is that they occupy a good amount desk real-estate, and are not ideal for smaller desks. If you don’t like this stand for whatever reasons, yo need to presss the quick-release button to detach the cabinet from the stand.
At the backside, you’ll get two USB 3.0 ports downstream, a headphone jack,and one USB 3.0 port upstream. For further connectivity, there are two more USB ports on the left side.
Featuring an IPS display, Acer XB271HU comes with 109 pixel density, 350-nit peak brightness, 1000:1 static contrast ratio, and 4ms response time (slower than 1ms response time in TN Panels).
It has small bezels which can be handy if you want a multi-monitor setup in the future.
Lower-right side of the cabinet is the place where you’ll find the five control buttons and the power button. Although the buttons are responsive on their own, their layout is a little counter-intuitive.
And since this monitor doesn’t come factory-calibrated, you’ll have to spend some time tinkering those settings for optimal results.
Like other G-Sync monitors, the only input options you get are HDMI port and DisplayPort. And if you want to utilize G-Sync functionality, you can do so only by connecting your PC through the DisplayPort.
When playing games on this display, we didn’t notice any backlight bleeding, but there was IPS glow. But the good thing is that you can reduce it by adjusting either your display brightness or the lighting of your room.
Overall, Acer Predator XB271HU is a great 27-inch 2k monitor. Yes, there are some downsides in the form of complex On-screen display and average speakers, what you get here is the good gaming performance, fast refresh rate, and low input lag.

ASUS ROG STRIX XG35VQ

In case you have some extra budget and want to enter the world of curved screens, you have Asus XG35VQ.
Priced at less than 750 bucks, it’s a lot cheaper than some in its competitors, such as Acer Predator X34P. Of course, there are some features in X34P you won’t find here (like the 120Hz refresh rate), but both of them have a lot of things in common: 35-inch VA panel with 1800R curve, 3440 x 1440 resolution, and FreeSync support.
You don’t get GSync here as you do in Acer X34P, but considering the fact that FreeSync now works with Nvidia GPUs as well, it’s not a big issue in my opinion.
As you would expect in any gaming monitor, ASUS XG35VQ has an aggressive design and has elements like aluminium stand which make it look premium.
From the top and left/right sides, it has 9mm bezels; and bigger 29mm bezels are on the bottom side, like in other ultrawide monitor these days. Other than this, there’s an RGB ring on the back and you can customize it through the Aura Sync software.
As for the ergonomics, you get a 30-degree tilt, 50-degree swivel in each direction, and 10-cm height adjustment.
For the connectivity, you get a HDMI 2.0 port, HDMI 1.4 port, DisplayPort 1.2, a headphones jack, as well as two-port USB (3.0) hub.
The only downside I could found in Asus XG35VQ is that its power button (along with other control buttons) is located at the backside. While all of these buttons feels great, they don’t feel differently to each other, which may probably result in your turning the monitor off accidentally – from time to time.
Overall, it’s a decent ultrawide monitor for gaming as well as content creation (except where you require color accuracy).
